Physiology

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated and organised Clinical Physiologist? Then we need you.

We have an excellent training post available, starting at Band 5 and moving to Band 6 role when competencies have been met.

Your key skills will be in cardiac investigations; including some experience in Echocardiography, assisting in exercise testing and the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic and completing holter analysis independently.

If you enter this role as a Band 6, you will have experience in Echocardiography, Lead ETT and the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic, holter analysis independently as well as supporting Cardiographers and Junior Physiologists. You should also have a history of working at a Band 5 level.

This is a challenging and busy department dedicated to providing a professional and patient centered service in an inpatient and outpatient setting, to a varied patient population. Working with other disciplines, the department performs cardiac and respiratory investigations to assist in diagnosis and treatment of a variety of conditions.

The department is primarily a non-invasive department at present, being heavily involved in echocardiography work (TTE + TOE) with bubble contrast studies and exercise echoes performed. The systems used are a GE vivid E95, 2 GE Vivid E9s, and a Vivid S5 together with GE reporting stations.

Exercise testing is carried out daily using Spacelab’s Cambridge heart equipment and we have busy Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinics.

Ambulatory holter monitoring and BP monitoring are also busy areas, again using Spacelab’s Lifecards and Pathfinder analysis system.

Our Respiratory investigations include full lung function tests with spirometry, gas transfer, lung volumes using both helium dilution and body plethysmography. The equipment used is Care Fusion Sentry Suite; we also do reversibility studies if indicated, together with six minute walk tests.

We have a very strong team in the Cardio/Respiratory department at the Queen Elizabeth hospital. We are all proud of how well we all work together, and we also have a good social network.

There is plenty of rental accommodation in the area, which is competitively priced.
